Chevrolet Trax Overview
The Chevrolet Trax is here and it's coming out of the gates swinging. Chevy’s crossover SUV is now in its second generation and it has a new, much more aggressive design and an all-new engine.
The latest Trax now carries a more assertive and sophisticated look. It showcases a prominent front grille, distinctive LED daytime running lights, and headlights, accompanied by boomerang-shaped LED taillights at the rear. With its muscular features and finely sculpted lines, the Trax exudes a distinctive appearance within its segment. Complementing the new design, the Redline and RS Trax get 18-inch wheels while the LT model receives slightly smaller 17-inch alloys.
Powering the 2024 Trax is a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, generating 137 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque. Like the previous generation of the Trax, power is transmitted to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of safety features, the Trax is equipped with a comprehensive suite of the brand's advanced safety technology. This includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian detection, forward collision alert, auto high-beam headlights, lane-keep assist with lane departure warning, blind spot information, rear-cross traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. These safety features are standard across all variants of the Chevy Trax.
- Launch
-
The Chevrolet Trax launched in the Philippines on July 4, 2023, directly coinciding with the American holiday celebrating the Declaration of Independence. Meaning this all-American car launched on an all-American holiday. At launch, Chevrolet introduced the all-new Trax with a launch price of P1,793,888 for the LT, P1,866,888 for the Redline, and finally, P1,948,888 for the range-topping RS variant.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
The all-new Trax is built on General Motors’ Vehicle Set Strategy (VSS-F) platform for front-wheel drive cars. The compact crossover is propelled by a 1.2-liter turbocharged GM CSS Prime three-cylinder engine with dual overhead cams and Variable Valve Timing (VVT), producing a capable output of 137 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque. Similar to its predecessor, power is sent to the road via a six-speed automatic transmission driving the two front wheels
The Trax has MacPherson Strut suspension up front and a torsion beam suspension at the back. Stopping power is provided by the Trax’s electro-hydraulic brake system with a new tech they call e-Boost. This system includes disc brakes featuring 16-inch rotors on all four wheels.

Modern looks require modern equipment, and the Chevrolet Trax has got the toys to match its new looks. Starting with the infotainment system, the Trax has two screen sizes available. The Redline and RS models get a large 11-inch touchscreen, while the LT features a slightly smaller eight-inch touchscreen. This infotainment system has Android Auto for seamless smartphone integration.
The RS and Redline variants also get a large eight-inch digital instrument cluster while the LT gets a conventional 3.5-inch monochrome display. In terms of standard features, however, all variants get automatic climate control, rear air vents, a multi-function steering wheel with heating, and auto-leveling LED headlights.
Features that are exclusive to the top trim RS variant include an electric sunroof, eight-way power adjustable driver seats, and a power tailgate for extra convenience.
- Exterior
-
One look at the 2024 Trax and you will see nothing of the car it replaces. The design of Chevrolet’s compact crossover is new, aggressive, sleek, and most importantly, fresh. Taking the spotlight at the front is a prominent grille, commanding attention. Just below it, slender LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and LED headlights add a touch of sleekness. As we shift focus to the rear, the Trax showcases eye-catching boomerang-style taillights and a redesigned tailgate, contributing to its overall refreshed appearance. It’s far from the wholesome and friendly face the first generation had.
The Trax is available in the Philippines with 17-inch wheels for the LT variant and 18-inch wheels for the Redline and RS variants. Meanwhile, buyers have a choice of the following color options, Black Meet Kettle Metallic, Summit White, and Sharkskin Metallic are available across the three variants, while Cacti Green, Tigerlily Metallic, Ziggy Solid, and Trip Metallic are exclusive for the Redline variant. Finally, the range-topping RS receives the Jinx Metallix paint scheme as its exclusive color.
- Interior
-
If you think Chevrolet put all its energy on only the outside of the Trax think again, because like the outside, the inside has also gotten with the times. Step inside the Trax, and you'll be welcomed by a contemporary and luxurious interior. The dashboard showcases a duo of digital displays: one serves as the instrument panel, while the other functions as the touchscreen infotainment system cleverly tilted to face the driver slightly. In higher-grade models, the touchscreen measures a generous 11 inches, while lower variants offer an eight-inch display. When it comes to features, the Trax has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, automatic climate control, a multitude of USB charging ports, and a convenient push-button start.
While the interior is designed to be clean and modern, Chevrolet kept the layout conventional, meaning it’s a car that is not too daunting to get used to. The LT variant gets fabric seats while the Redline and RS variants get leather upholstery. Exclusive to the Redline and RS variants are perforated red stitching on the seats to contrast with the interior.
- Safety
-
Chevrolet has given the all-new Trax a suite of safety features, featuring a hefty list of passive and active safety features. Starting with the Trax’s passive features, the Trax has airbags for the front passengers and airbags for the side and curtains, and seat belts with an emergency locking retractor. As for active safety features, the Trax has enhanced stability control which includes, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake distribution, traction control, engine drag control, panic brake assist, hill-start assist, torque vectoring, and rollover mitigation.
As for driver aids, Chevrolet has equipped the Trax with a forward collision alert, following distance indicator, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, auto control high beam, enhanced front pedestrian detection, low-speed imminent collision brake, integrated brake assist, and vehicle forward movement detection. All these safety features are standard across the three variants of the all-new Trax.
